High Country Inn News 2016

10/15/2016 - October Musings

It's been almost a whole season since our last newsletter, but that doesn't mean we haven't been busy here at The High Country Inn! The summer flew by with lots of guests coming and going; many of them on their way to or from Yellowstone and Glacier Parks. Now we are in the fishing season, and I MUST share this video of one of our guests who caught a mammoth of a Chinook salmon here on the Clearwater this past weekend. The fishing guide noted that it is the biggest (35 lbs!) that he has seen pulled out of the Clearwater River! This group of guests was on a reunion after graduating from Washington State University 28 years ago. Two of them played football for WSU, and the crew of six was headed to the big rival game between the Cougars and the Oregon Ducks, which turned out to be a rout! It was great fun hosting them.

80 Years of Loving Life

My most exciting news is that I have been celebrating my 80th birthday since September 23, and am still at it! The weekend of September 23-27 was spent at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, compliments of my son Scott and his wife Anne. Boy, was I was treated like a queen! I enjoyed a beautiful room, gourmet meals, and wonderful activities and tours.

The celebration continued this weekend in San Francisco with my other four children and their spouses, enjoying the city and all it has to offer. We enjoyed some of their finest restaurants, a show, the Fisherman's Wharf, and a tour or two. It was so wonderful to be with Jude, Richard, Sharon, and Edward and their spouses for this wonderful weekend!

his year we will once again host OKTOBERFEST on Sunday, October 23, starting at 4 p.m. The event is open to the public. A full German menu will be featured, including several meat dishes as well as popular Bavarian side dishes. We'll have some German beer and fine wines on hand, along with lively oom-pa-pa accordion music played by Richard Whitten. Tickets are $25 per person for the full dinner, which also includes light appetizers and dessert.
Reservations must be made by Thursday, October 20, and out-of-towners are always welcome to reserve a room and stay overnight!

Fall in full swing!

The Inn is gearing up for a busy fall season, as my annual visitors (the Cast and Blast crew) will be here October 12-16 for their 10th reunion! There will be 13 guys who flew P-3 aircraft together for the Navy years ago. This group has kept up with each other over the last decade through their annual reunion and have become like family to me. The week they are here includes several traditional rituals along with great meals, which have also become a staple of their visit. (My Beer-Braised Beef Brisket will surely make an appearance!) And we can't forget Joe Gish's home brew, which is also must-have part of their reunion!
