High Country Inn News 2007

Just a quick note that our deadline for ordering home-baked goodies and gift baskets is Tuesday, December 17 for delivery by Friday, December 21! Prices range from $30 to $100, and can be custom-ordered with a variety of cookies, biscotti, wines, jellies, cork trivets, our own new coffee mugs with fancy hot chocolates, and even muffin mixes prepared by Dianna Seeley's high school group who are raising funds for their World Youth Day trip to Australia in 2008! We also offer a nice Christmas card announcing gift certificates for a special overnight at the High Country Inn, with a range of choices and prices. Call or e-mail us!

Our last dinner for the season will be Wednesday, with a return of Potlatch Palouse region for their business meeting/dinner, then we will prepare for our own family's arrival for Christmas! I did want to let everyone know that I will definitely have my shoulder work done, I have an appointment in Missoula on January 2, with possible shoulder replacement surgery scheduled for January 8. January will give me some time to recuperate before we do a wedding on February 2! :)

We want to thank each of you for your business this past year, it has been our best; with the new Catawampus Room proving to be a real boon for our overnight guests' entertainment! We had the most weddings ever, as well as lots of B&B guests finding us on the web...what an important resource! We are getting repeat business, also patrons who spread the word about our hospitality and good food!

Merry Christmas and best wishes to you and your families!

There are a few openings left for our annual Holiday High Tea, for which we will accept reservations through Friday, so if you thought it was too late, you still have time to invite a friend for a special treat! It's Sunday, December 2, 3 p.m., price is $15 adults, children under 12 $10, plus gratuity.

We will be taking orders for Christmas "baskets" filled with good things to eat, as well as individual orders of biscotti, cinnamon tea rings for your Christmas brunch, or other desserts or breads of your choosing. If you need anything, let us know, at least three days in advance.

Our Holiday Season launches this weekend, and we have several parties booked throughout the month of December. We will have room this Saturday, December 1, for another small group or table, serving NY Strip Loin, also on Saturday, December 8, we will be open to redeem gift certificates, or host small dinners for that December birthday or anniversary. If you have something special you would like to celebrate, call us! Our last date to book events will be December 21, and then we will be closed for our own family Christmas celebration. We wish you happy holidays, and hope to see you soon!

I heard on my Sirius radio channel yesterday that holiday tunes will begin on Monday, November 19, what?? Before Thanksgiving? I could hardly believe it, but here I am booking teas and parties, so here we go!

We do want to invite you to make your reservations for our Christmas Holiday High Tea, Sunday, December 2, one which we are hoping will attract those who would like to bring a member of the younger set to attend also. Reservations are coming in, and we hope it will be another sell-out as the Autumn Tea was in early November. Whether you have a daughter, grand daughter, niece, or a friend to bring, the tea will be one to help usher in a lovely holiday season. The inn will be beautifully decorated, and we might not have snow yet, but Cathy will be playing some lovely music for us, putting us in the Christmas mood! Do call or e-mail in soon with your reservations. The cost is $15 for adults, and $10 for youngsters under 12. (Price includes tax, but not gratuity.) Time is 3 pm.

We will be taking our Thanksgiving holiday vacation, flying to Columbus, Ohio, from Sunday, November 18 through Tuesday, November 27. However, you can still call in for your reservation and leave a message, and you will be called back. We actually have a family of 17 who will be having their Thanksgiving holiday at the inn for three days, and we have hunters and couples coming in for stays also. Our Christmas parties begin December 1, and we are scheduled for several up through the 16th so far. I am still trying to work in a holiday cooking class, possibly on December 8. It will be a busy season, and we are accepting orders for gift baskets and bags as well as gift certificates for overnight getaways, if you need an idea for gift-giving!

Have a very happy Thanksgiving, and enjoy your family and friends during this holiday season. We thank you all for your loyal patronage, and for telling others about us!

Hi to all our friends!

It was a wonderful OKTOBERFEST celebration at the inn, with about 60 guests here for dinner during the day. Lots of newcomers made their acquaintance with our inn, and promised to return soon! Thanks to all those who made the drive from Clarkston, Lewiston, and Kamiah!

We can hardly believe that reservations for our Autumn High Tea filled up so rapidly, and we had to close it at 48 guests! I am sure everyone will enjoy the fine music offerings by Becky and Dennis Riendeau.

I am now scheduling one for the Christmas holidays, with Christmas music by Cathy Curtis Moore, on Sunday, December 2. Our last Christmas tea was like a fairy wonderland with the magnificent view and the carols playing while we served tea! This would be a grand time to even bring along some of the younger set to see what a high tea is all about! We'll be accepting reservations immediately for Sunday, December 2. You may call or e-mail.

We won't be offering anything else public for the holidays, as most Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays will be taken up with private catering for different businesses and groups in Orofino, Clarkston, Lewiston, and Kamiah, though we will do family gatherings or private parties for ten or more on some evenings. Do call if you are interested in doing a party! We would like to get in a holiday cooking class, but can't promise anything yet!

Last year we offered elaborate gift "baskets" for giving for the holidays, which included a wide variety of homemade cookies, breads, and other confections, gaily wrapped and stuffed into beautiful gift bags. We will do the same this year given enough notice. Prices range from $30 to $50 or more. We heard from many of last year's "recipients" how much they enjoyed their bag of goodies!

January will be taken up with some recovery time for me, as I need to have a shoulder replacement along with carpal tunel surgery, so am hoping to have 3-31/2 weeks to snap back before a wedding to do on February 2, and then of course February is our big Anniversary Month for the High Country Inn, when we'll be offering special events for the month of love.

We hope everyone will have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday, we will be getting away for our annual flight to Ohio, and Sherri and Chuck will hold down the fort, with a family group of seventeen coming to spend a three-day holiday and have Thanksgiving dinner at the inn!

We've had a grand fall season so far, with lots of new visitors coming for everything from workshops to fishing to romantic getaways. Everyone has enjoyed our little spot of beautiful Idaho! Do remember us whenever you have guests come and need a very nice place to stay!

Come to our OKTOBERFEST!

Now's the time to make your reservations for our annual OKTOBERFEST, to be held next Sunday, October 14 at the High Country Inn! We had a nice turnout last year, and hope to see lots of you atone of the only public functions we are able to do this year. The menu has something for everyone, from sauerbraten to good old-fashioned roasted pork loin, plus all the trimmings you can imagine. There are still openings for all seatings, except the 3:30 is the fullest right now. Tell your friends, and come out and enjoy a Sunday fall afternoon in a warm and colorful setting! The full dinner is $16.95, a real bargain for all that is included. Hope to see you there! Reservations may be made up to Saturday, October 13, but the earlier the better!

Autumn High Tea will be Sunday, November 4, and reservations are coming in steadily for this event, which will feature wonderful entertainment by the Riendeaus, Becky and Dennis, on piano and flutes. This is a real treat of the afternoon, and we hope to see you there. Either tables or single reservations may be made for the tea, which begins at 3 p.m. Price is $15 for the three-course meal, including a variety of teas as well as coffee.

Our web site is now offering new Fall Getaway packages, as well as pictures of the new Catawampus Room, do visit it if you haven't recently. Just click on here: http://www.thehighcountryinn.com Thanks also all of you, for sending your friends to our web site, also for sending us lodging business! We really appreciate it!

Make your Reservations Now!

As we head into the end of September, we realize that OKTOBERFEST is just around the corner! We hope you are planning to attend, and especially that you will help spread the word, so that we will have good attendance for our annual celebration of fall! Sunday, October 14, all afternoon so you can pick your time (1 pm, 3:30 pm, or 6 pm) to enjoy a bounty of good German food in lovely surroundings. We'll have ads in the Kamiah, Cottonwood , and Orofino papers, and have to rely on our friends in Lewiston and Moscow to help spread the word! The buffet will be $16.95, which includes all the good German dishes we like to make, including sauerbraten, cabbage rolls, warm German potato salad, sweet and sour red cabbage, roast pork, bratwurst, and all the trimmings, AND desserts and coffee.

Please make your reservations soon! Call or e-mail.

Autumn High Tea will be Sunday, November 4, and will feature the Riendeau Duo, Becky and Dennis Riendeau playing piano and flutes. Becky and Dennis will offer a new repertoire of classical favorites and other fall-themed music. This three-course festive event is popular around the country as a leisurely way to spend a Sunday afternoon, and we invite you to attend, ours, even if you have never been to a high tea! Come hungry, there will be no need to fix a meal when you get home! The tea will be from 3 to 5 pm, and the cost is $15 plus gratuity.. Reservations may be made by table s (4-8) or by singles, and we'll make up tables.

This is an event not offered anywhere else around, and the success of both the OKTOBERFEST and high teas depend on patronage. We've not been able to offer many public events this year, due to the schedule of our privately-catered events, but we hope we won't have to discontinue having our friends up to the inn for an occasional meal or party! We would like to continue with occasional Casual Fridays, and special events such as Mardi Gras, St. Patrick's, Valentine's, and other holiday occasions. Our business has grown especially around couple's anniversaries with Romantic Getaways, and weddings were a mainstay during the summer.

We are happy to book small groups for luncheons, brunches, dinners, or even meetings and retreats. The holiday season is fast approaching, and we are booking group parties as well as family dinners. Do keep us in mind for lodging if you are expecting guests anytime during the year! Our new Catawampus Room is proving especially popular with groups for entertainment, with room for a dozen or more to have a good time together! And we do offer Gift Certificates for either cash value or an overnight with dinner and breakfast for that special someone on your list for Christmas, a birthday, wedding gift, or a thank-you!

New van in town!! You won't see the old (2000) white van around with Country Catering emblazoned on its sides......instead, look for a cognac-colored Chrysler Town and Country van with C Cater on its plates. We'll have some new graphics on it soon, but they will mention The High Country Inn rather than the catering business. Catering will be cut back to a smaller scale as we build business at the inn for lodging, business meetings, retreats, and occasional dining.

We've been asked about wine tastings, and we'd like to do some special dinners around the theme of sampling new wines and also some great beers that are new to this area. Let us know if you are interested. We'll definitely have some new ones at our OKTOBERFEST! Hope to see you there!

After a long, hot and dry summer, the hint of fall is definitely in the air, and I think we're all looking forward to it! Lumberjack Days ushered in some cool weather, and now we can think about the approaching colors and flavors of autumn, and it wouldn't be autumn if we didn't plan our annual OKTOBERFEST! It has been well attended the last few years, and we hope this year will be no exception.

Please mark Sunday, October 14, on your calendar for a special treat of delicious German food, and I promise we won't skip the sauerbraten this year! Included in the all you'd like to eat buffet menu will be many hearty favorites, including garden salad, cabbage rolls, sweet and sour red cabbage, hot German potato salad, sauerbraten, roasted pork, mashed potatoes, lots of good gravy, applesauce, and of course, desserts! We're ordering in some special German beers and wines, and will have everything decorated in beautiful autumn colors with good biergarten music in the background. This year we will offer three seatings, beginning at 1 p.m., and going until 6 p.m., to allow for our friends from out of town to make the trip and not be driving in the dark. Please invite others to join us, and let's make this the best OKTOBERFEST ever!

Sunday, October 14
seatings at 1 p.m., 3:30 p.m., and 6 p.m.

Coming in November: Autumn High Tea with entertainment

Christmas luncheons and dinners now being booked, for families, groups, and businesses Family retreats always welcome!

Correction to Newsletter!

The price for our Barbeque fest with live music was incorrectly given in the newsletter I sent out last week, I just discovered, it should have read $16.95 for the complete dinner, rather than $18.95 as stated! I had to check the newspaper ad to find out! I was wondering why no reservations were coming in, and maybe that is why! We would still like to invite everyone to make reservations and attend this Friday, September 7, for a great meal, plus the added bonus of Mike Riccomini and Cathy entertaining us! My timing might be bad, with lots going on around us, but it's hard to ever find a GOOD time! And to make up for the incorrect notice, we will offer a Senior discount price of just $15 for age 65 plus! Do let your friends know, and you can make reservations up through Friday morning.

We are excited about showing off our new Catawampus Cabin also, with the many features which we think will offer lots of entertainment for our guests. We will open at 6 p.m., and plan on serving around 7 p.m. this Friday. Ya'll come!

Casual Friday Is Back!

Enjoy Moore's Barbeque, live music, and view the new Game Room!

Greetings to all after the busiest summer we've had in our five years at the inn! Not only the most weddings, rehearsal dinners, and catered events, but the B&B business has kept us hopping even during the week. We can hardly believe that our last event for the public was three months ago, when we "kicked off the summer" and now it's time to do the same for fall! We've missed seeing all our "regulars," you friends who have been so loyal in supporting us, and we're anxious to visit with all of you again! Mike Riccomini will be playing and singing for your enjoyment, and we're hoping that Cathy, our "old" friend and "new" daughter-in-law, will have time to join him, in the midst of starting their new house up on the hill above ours!

The new Catawampus Room is open for our guests, and we want to show it off! The new cabin boasts a hand-cut ponderosa pine pool table, electronic dart game enclosed in a cabinet of the same wood, along with a beautiful poker table and matching chairs, which can be turned over for a dining table with room for eight. A brand-new TV with built-in DVD, hooked up to satellite, along with a game table and all the family games you can imagine, plus two futons which will make up into double beds when needed for overflow. A vanity, and in the kitchen area a Maytag Neptune washer and dryer, microwave oven, counter-top icemaker, and small refrigerator will add to our guests' enjoyment. A wrap-around deck extends to the east end, where two bistro tables with chairs and umbrellas afford a view of the woods and hills beyond the cabins. The Catawampus Room will be available for overnight guests to use, plus can be rented out as a party room as part of the catering business of the High Country Inn.

Plan now to enjoy our delicious German food and biergarten atmosphere, to be announced for a Sunday afternoon in October. Right now we are thinking it will be Sunday, October 14, and we'll have a buffet running all afternoon, with three different seatings. Watch for details!

Christmas Parties Already?
Can you imagine that we already have bookings for Christmas gatherings, and it is only August! If your company plans its annual event at the inn, call right away, and secure your spot!

Scrapbook Retreat scheduled for October 26-28
All scrappers are invited to inquire about the annual retreat coordinated by Vicki Schneider, which will last from Friday-Sunday, includes lodging, two dinners, two breakfasts, and two lunches, classes all weekends, sales, and drawings, all for $165. Call 476-4861 for details.

If you have your own group of several people, and would like to schedule a separate retreat, let us know.

Hello to all!

It's been a while since our last newsletter. Our last public event was the Barbeque and Blue Grass Band, which was a great success despite having to move everything inside at the last minute! Everyone was wonderful about being in cramped quarters. We were packed to the gills, but it was a fun evening and the music was wonderful as usual. By the way, we do have the new cd for sale from Red Eye Gravy-they are "uptown" now!

We are having our busiest year ever, with three weddings down and six more to go through August! The next three weekends are filled with weddings held here at the inn, so that's why you won't be seeing news of events for the public. We do however, want to try to find a date for open house to view our newest project, the Catawampus Room, which will be finished in time for the family and guests to enjoy during our family wedding on June 30. We are in the last two weeks of construction, with me making threats that it WILL be finished by Thursday evening June 29!

I think everyone will be thrilled with the workmanship of this fine addition to our cabin complex......it matches the style and color of the cabins, has a wrap-around deck, lots of big windows, a wood floor that resembles an old barroom, and the finest game equipment we could find, all made of ponderosa pine! The washer and dryer are ordered, the decking and cabinets are coming this week. The cabin will feature a pool table, poker table which converts to a dining table, electronic dart game in a matching pine cabinet, a TV with dvd and a complete library of movies garnished from the family abundance! The cabin divides into two areas, with a kitchenette/laundry facility sharing space with the poker table and chairs, and that floor is all tile, as well as the small vanity. There will be room for guests to sit out on the deck, and admire the beautiful woodsy setting. Do I sound excited?

Now here's the subject of my newsletter: There is a big spot on the wall up towards the ceiling which is just crying for a trophy mount, so I am asking if anyone knows of a mount or two that needs a home to let me know. People were so generous in the past, bringing us their elk, deer, caribou, birds, etc., and now we have room for another one or two! Any leads will be appreciated!

I hope you are having a grand summer, we are still waiting to get our new boat into the water, as the marina slips have been broken all spring, and our boat is just too big to haul back and forth until it has a home on the lake. Surely we'll have it in by next week before our BIG Event! In the meantime, let's enjoy the summer!

We are hoping the weather will be nice, it's supposed to be in the 70's, and that we will see many of you at our 3rd annual BBQ with Red Eye Gravy, Saturday, June 9, opening at 6:30 p.m. This will be our only event for the public for quite a while, and we do miss not seeing our regular patrons, although we do hope to have an open house and tour when we open our new Catawampus Room! We'll accept reservations through Saturday morning for our bountiful spread of Moore's barbeque and fixings!

Hello Friends,

This is a reminder that our one big gathering for the year is coming up in just two weeks....our 3rd annual "Kick off the Summer" barbeque and Blue Grass Band, Saturday, June 9, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The price of tickets is $19.95, which includes a full dinner, plus part of the ticket goes to pay the band, Red Eye Gravy, which has to be compensated for their wonderful entertainment! Reservations are coming in, but there is still plenty of room, as we plan on being outdoors as usual. On the menu will be an all-you-want-to-eat buffet of salads, three kinds of meat (chicken, pork, beef), baked beans, bread, dessert, and beverage.

This is the only public event planned at this time, although we hope to host an open house when we finish our new project, which will be a game room for our guests. Scheduled completion is in June, and you already know that we have the big wedding celebration of our son, Richard, and dear friend Cathy here on June 30. Richard is calling this "The Merger" and that it is, with two great families coming together after years of knowing one another!

We do want to have a Casual Friday or two, so watch for the dates. Our deck is especially nice this year, and we have new tables and chairs too! We've been busy catering during this beautiful spring weather. We were happy to have so many of the ladies (30) from the Lutheran church here last week for a breakfast, and the hospital auxiliary had their May luncheon here with over 40 members. Also the annual Founders' Day dinner had a record attendance for their event on April 30. Many thanks to all of you who have brought your groups up here for a meal and meeting. We will be hosting Red Hatters from Lewiston again this summer, as well as a senior group from Pullman. We love to do lunches, brunches, as well as dinners for groups from 15 to 50! We will also do private dinners for small groups, we have at least two family reunion dinners planned during the week this summer.

We are keeping our fingers crossed that we can put our boat in the water at the marina by June 1!! The parts have been ordered to repair the cables holding the dock, and there have been at least two delays so far. We already have some dinner cruises booked for guests coming for a stay, and we hope the matter will be settled soon. Our new boat will hold at least 15 passengers and that will be a fun way to acquaint visitors with our lovely area.

We look forward to seeing many of you at our BBQ on June 9. Make your reservations soon, and have a great summer!

We hope the men on our newsletter list will note that next weekend is Mother's Day, and we do have a very special dinner planned here at the High Country Inn, to not only celebrate a special day in spring, but also to offer a nice dinner for any of our friends who would enjoy having a Sunday dinner out! Our garden is beautiful and the scenery from the windows is awesome this month! We hope to see many of our friends here when we open for dinner at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 13! We're hoping the weather will also cooperate for outdoor visiting!
Appetizer Dish on tables
Buffet of a choice of three entrees!
Baron of Beef, Crusty Baked Salmon, or Chicken Breast Divan
Lots of Jo's special side dishes, deluxe garden salad, homemade rolls, butter
Desserts, coffee or tea

$17.95 per person, seniors 65+, $15.95, plus tax and gratuity Please reserve early in the week if possible. There will be just one seating this year due to our busy weekend.

Reservations are already coming in for our annual "Kick off the Summer" outdoor Barbeque with Red Eye Gravy. The date is Saturday, June 9, opening at 6 p.m. with social hour, toe-tapping music before dinner and again afterwards. We always have over 100 guests join us for this popular affair, and hope you will be part of the fun this year as we kick off the summer season! The price of $19.95 per person includes paying for the band to play, and is a bargain for both the fine dinner and entertainment! We'll have a full spread of our "Texas-style" barbeque of smoked meats, side dishes, breads and butter, dessert, and beverage. Tell your friends and make reservations soon!

We should have our new "Catawampus Room" ready to show off....it's our new game room and lounge for our guests to enjoy, along with additional laundry facilities for us.

We're also busy planning for our son Richard and Cathy Curtis to celebrate their marriage here on June 30. A new house for them will be built here, so there's a lot going on! Everyone is thrilled with this event, as Richard and Cathy have known each other over 18 years, and the two families have been friends all this time!

We do hope to see you at our upcoming events, there aren't many planned this summer as we have so many weddings and other catered events taking up most every weekend, but we do look forward to seeing you when we can!

Good morning!

Just a quick note to pass on a message from the We the People government class at Orofino High School, which is trying to raise the funds for their upcoming trip to Washington, D.C., to compete on a national level in their knowledge of the Constitution: Please come and support them this Sunday, at 5 p.m., here at the High Country Inn! We have donated the use of the inn for the evening, and the kids will be preparing hors d'oeuvres, salads, and beverages, and there will be a dessert auction as well. There was some problem with the publicity, so the word hasn't gotten out like it should have, so this is a last-ditch effort to drum up support! We do hope those who can will be able to attend this Sunday. The view from the inn is spectacular right now, and hopefully we'll have the weather to match! I believe they are asking for a $10 donation for the "light" meal they are serving.

Also, as mentioned in my last newsletter, we are hosting a high tea for a small group of ladies from Clarkston, who have not been here before, and we have plenty of room for two or three more tables, if you are interested in an afternoon out, this coming Wednesday, April 18, at 1 p.m. The tea will take the place of a lunch, so phone some friends and plan an impromptu mid-week get-together! Just call by Monday if you can, and make a reservation. $15 person

Other notes:
CVHC Auxiliary Luncheon at the inn, Monday, May 8, a good time to join this great organization!
Call for more information and price of lunch.
Mother's Day Dinner Sunday, May 13, 5 p.m. Make reservations soon!
Annual Kick-off the Summer Barbeque and Blue Grass Band, Saturday, June 9, 6 p.m. This outdoor event usually draws at least 100 guests for a rousing good time, and a wonderful all-you-can-eat Texas-style barbeque! Price for dinner including the band entertainment is $18.95, plus tax and gratuity.

Almost all our summer weekends are filled with either retreats or weddings, and we look forward to the very special occasion of our son Richard's and Cathy's wedding party here on June 30! We are hastening to finish our latest building project, which is a combination Rec Room and laundry facility, which will house a beautiful new pool table, and will hopefully begin construction of Richard's and Cathy's new home here on our property by the end of May! (We'll soon be known as the "Moore Compound!")

Hope to see you at one of our events soon!

Wishes to all for a Happy Easter, that it will be a wonderful family gathering for all. We will be in Boise celebrating our babies' first and third birthdays, Dominic and Olivia share April 4 as their joint birthday, so we will honor them this weekend, mixed with the Easter Bunny and all in a two-day extravaganza! Our Cathy is making a butterfly cake for Olivia, and an Idaho Vandals cake for Dom, and we'll carry them down with us.

All three April weekends are filled for us, with a quilting retreat and a wedding!! We do have a couple of events to invite you to attend, however, one is a tea on Wednesday, April 18, we have a group of about a dozen ladies coming from Lewiston around noon and they want a high tea. So we will have room for a few more tables, if any of you would like to come for a mid-week spring outing!

On Saturday, April 14, we will be catering the prom for students in Kamiah. What a nice idea for those students, they are using grants from the Promise program to fund their prom dinner!

Immediately following the close of the quilting retreat on Sunday, April 15, we have offered the use of the High Country Inn for the government class of Cindy Wilson to have a fundraiser chocolate event. This will be at 5 p.m. We hope you will be able to support these students, either by attending their event, or making a monetary contribution!

Also, on Sunday, April 22, we have invited members of the symphony who will be presenting the fourth concert of the season for the Community Concert Association, to come to the inn for dessert following the 2 p.m. concert. If you will be attending the concert, and would like to meet and greet the musicians, while enjoying a variety of desserts, snacks, and coffee, you might like to make reservations, so we will know you plan to come. The cost will just be $7 per person, and you can try as many desserts as you like! Wine will also be available from our bar.

Monday, May 7 we will host the CVHC Auxiliary members for lunch. This organization is fast becoming the organization to belong to, gaining new members every month! The rest of the year the group meets at the Ponderosa, but we are pleased to be invited to host them for May.

The next public event we have scheduled is for Mother's Day, May 13, which will be a dinner at 5 p.m. We will have just one seating this year, as the night before we are catering the prison's annual award dinner, which we have done the last several years. The menu will be a choice of Baron of Beef, or Crusty Baked Salmon, with appetizers, dessert, coffee, for $17.95. Seniors 65 and over will be offered a special price of $15.95. We hope you will make your reservations early, as we usually have two seatings, but I don't think we can manage it this year with back-to-back events!

Looking ahead!! Saturday, June 9, our annual "Kick off the Summer" barbeque with bluegrass band Red Eye Gravy! You won't want to miss this event, we will be outside, with a buffet of our wonderful Texas-style smoked meats, and all the trimmings! Cost for this, full dinner, which includes the entertainment by Red Eye Gravy, will be $19.95 person. We always have a wonderful crowd for this outdoor event, and hope you will be a part of it! Plan a table soon, and give us a call to reserve! This is one occasion at the High Country Inn that you won't want to miss!

Our biggest news is to announce that our son, Richard, and dear friend and "almost-daughter," Cathy Curtis will be wed on Saturday, June 30 here at the inn! Two wonderful families are about to be blended, and a beautiful new house will be under construction by then for them to live in here on our property! We are so thrilled and grateful that they are both so happy now!

I know this is lengthy, but thought it good to give you some events to consider, so that you can plan ahead. Events for the public for the next couple of months are few and far between, with the many catered events we have to fill the weekends. We hope you will continue to tell your friends about us, especially if you know of people traveling to these parts, who might like to lodge at the inn! Our B&B and Beyond is always open!

Hello and happy spring to you!! Wow, what rain we had yesterday! It's nice to grab those days when it's perfect to work outside, though, isn't it? We're busy moving around plants, replacing what the deer have eaten, and so forth, probably just like you! We're nearing Easter, and I would have liked to have had a Sunday buffet, but perhaps we will have one in May for Mother's Day, if there is enough interest. We will be going down to Boise for Easter, and to celebrate our two grandbabies' birthdays, who will be 3 and 1 on the same day! Then we are filled every other weekend of April, with two quilting retreats, a wedding, and the Jr./Sr. prom in Kamiah!

Our other news is that our son, Richard, and our very dear friend of over 17 years, Cathy Curtis, are engaged, and will marry this summer, probably June 30. They will be building a home on our property, up above our house, and we couldn't be more thrilled and excited! Richard's daughter, Elizabeth, will attend her last two years of high school here, while Nathan starts his first year at University of Idaho.

Our immediate plans at the High Country Inn involve a kids' "Easter" cooking class to be held this Saturday, March 31, and we need three more to fill the class, which will be one day from 9:30-2:30, includes lunch and take-home products, for $40. Deadline for registering is this Thursday.

Other projects include taking orders for homemade hot cross buns, for $3 doz. We will be baking this Friday morning, to have plenty to sell at our church baked foods sale, and I will make more next week if we get orders later. The rolls will freeze, and are great for morning coffees. E-mail if you'd like to order some.

Save the date: Saturday, June 9: Kick-off the summer annual BBQ and Blue Grass Band "Red Eye Gravy" will be performing. Plan now to attend...each year we've had well over 100 guests enjoy the outdoor supper and entertainment.

St. Paddie's celebration reservations are going fast! If you are thinking about coming, you will need to get your reservations in by this week! The date is Saturday, March 17, opening at 6:30 pm. full dinner and entertainment for $15.95 plus tax and gratuity. You can call and leave a message, or e-mail for your spots. It's going to be a grand party! We already have 30 reservations.

We are hoping to have a children's Easter cooking class on Saturday, March 31. This would be for children age 9-12, and the class will include some fun things to make, including the science of making yeast bread, some decorated cookies, and an edible rice Krispie bird nest. Lunch will be included, the class will last from 9:30 to 2:30, and will cost $40. Size of the class will be limited to 8 kids, and a mom or two will be welcome to be aides in the class.

I'd also like to know if there is enough interest for an Easter Sunday buffet dinner on April 8 in the afternoon. Let me know soon!

Other news is that we've extended our Romantic Getaway package for couples to the end of June. It was very popular for February, and we have reservations for March and May. Not all weekends are open, as we are also hosting two retreats and a wedding in April, but there are some in between, especially in May and June. This is especially nice for anniversary celebrations, or just a time to "re-connect." The package includes a nice basket with an Australian champagne, chocolates, cheese, crackers, and other snacks, and homemade cookies, for your room or cabin, dinner for two, overnight lodging, use of the hot tub, and a delicious cooked breakfast the next morning. The price for a Texas cabin is $160, Moose Room $140.

We had a great 5th anniversary celebration, with good attendance at our three dinners and high tea, and everyone appreciated the fine live entertainment at each! We finished off the weekend with Mardi Gras and Cajun food, and the Riendeaus, Dennis and Becky, impressed everyone with their flute and piano duos, and equally so the wonderful duo of Cathy Curtis and Mike Riccomini, so much that they have all agreed to come back for our St. Paddie's party on Saturday, March 17! Dennis promises to have some funny Irish jokes, and we'll also have a sing-along of classic Irish tunes with all our entertainers! We are already accepting reservations for tables for the 17th, and we'll feature not only corned beef, cabbage, and all the trimmings, but also a baked potato bar for those whose favorite dish isn't corned beef! So plan on a wearin' of the green and lots of fun up at the High Country Inn! We'll have the place all decorated, and even some Irish beer on hand. Price for full dinner will be just $15.95, plus tax and gratuity.

Our Romantic Getaway Packages are proving quite popular, which include a gift basket in the room as well as dinner and breakfast. This special lasts through March 4, but we are thinking of extending it through April to meet the requests we've had. If you and your special someone need a great weekend to reconnect, this is the package for you! See more on our web site, as well as the tour of our rooms that is new this month. Our site is getting some attention, with new guests coming from as far away as Italy!

Hello to all! We've had a wonderful weekend of intimate dinners and entertainment, and this is just a reminder that our actual Valentine's Day celebration is this coming Wednesday, February 14, featuring a lovely dinner with a choice of three entrees, romantic music with flute and piano by Dennis and Becky Riendeau, a gift for each lady, in addition to a door prize or two to be given away. There are still some reservations, and we will accept them until Monday evening at 8 p.m. Call or e-mail.

We are also still honoring our special Romantic packages for a night in either one of the cabins or the Moose Room, through March 4.

Our next open event for the public will probably not be until March 17, our annual St. Patrick's celebration, which will feature a wonderful Irish dinner and live entertainment. Put that date on your calendar!and get a table together!
