High Country Inn News 2014

Community Support Sought for Library Fundraiser!

Friends of the Library, a volunteer group of which I am a member,is busy planning our 5th annual major fundraiser aimed at helping the Clearwater Memorial Public library purchase equipment or make improvements which otherwise cannot be accomplished.  This year's event, as in the previous four years, will be held at the High Country Inn, and promises to be a fun-filled evening!  We are also seeking businesses and individuals to become sponsors of tables for $100  (tax deductible).  Please mark the date, Saturday, August 9, No-host Social hour at 6 pm, dinner to follow.  Tickets are $25 per person, which will include wonderful entertainment all evening, in addition to a "down-home southern dinner."

You are especially invited to attend our "Bluegrass, Jammin', and Folk Music on the Lawn", in the Sunken Garden of the Inn, located on the way to Dworshak Dam.  A popular bluegrass band from Lewiston called Milltown will headline the party, and others who would like to jam or play some southern folk music are being invited to join in.We should have music all evening!

On the menu will be delicious traditional southern cooking, including barbequed country style ribs, cornbread, blackeyed peas, potato salad, greens and more,  fruit cobbler, and of course "sweet tea!"  Social hour will include complimentary appetizers as guests gather and greet one another and the music begins.  There will also be opportunities to buy raffle tickets on some great "down south" prizes, gathered by the Friends.
If you would like to sponsor a table, please email or call me, phone 208-476-7570. You will be recognized for your generosity both publicly and at our event.  You may reserve the table also for 8 persons, tickets are separate at $25 each.  You may also buy your tickets at the library on Michigan Avenue in Orofino.  Deadline for purchasing tickets is Thursday, August 7.

My Dream of a Lifetime Trip!
Everyone has been asking me about the absolutely wonderful trip I enjoyed with some of my family to Ireland !  We had a glorious ten-day trip during which we had almost daily sunshine and the greenest countrysides imaginable.  It is truly a "fairyland" adventure, being surrounded by so much old history, seeing ruins of structures over 1000 years older than Stonehenge, plus huge castles, cathedrals, shrines, the very modern city of Dublin, and not to mention our forays into Guiness  Warehouse where we learned how to pour a pint of this world-famous beer, Jameson Distillery, where we learned the difference beween Irish whiskey, scotch, and Jack Daniels!  We enjoyed what will be a new summer favorite, called Jameson, Ginger, and Lime---absolutely refreshing!,and our new favorite beer, Smithwick's! We enjoyed the hospitality of five B & B's, which all serve the traditional Irish breakfast in addition to other dishes.  We did the "Pub Crawl ' to three different pubs in downtown Dublin, and tapped and clapped to wonderful Irish music, (all the pubs we visited had live music. )  The food was delicious, much better than we had been led to believe, and the decadent desserts were our downfall! WE all would recommend this Ireland adventure to all, especially due to the great hospitality of all the people we  met, who were alwys anxious to help us and find out where we were from! (Unfortunately, most thought Idaho was Iowa, and tried to place us in the middle of the states!) We also didn't tell them that our Idaho french fries beat their "chips!"  The fresh seafood, usually caught just that day, was really good, I had my first whole langostinos, that was a plateful! So if you ever get the chance, make the flight over the "pond" and give your eyes and senses a feast.

Don't Let Summer Pass You By

It seems that we've waited for summer for months now, and before we know it, we will be wondering where did it go?  Don't let these precious sun splashed days streak by without taking a day or two out for some pure relaxation!  We'd like to help you by offering a fantastic special that you won't want to miss----
a Half-Price "Just Do It!" Getaway.  Take a day off from work, a busy schedule - just do what you have to do to be absent for a one-day escape!

How does this sound?
Pack a bag, make the beautiful drive up to the High Country Inn, arriving around 5 or 6 pm and be prepared to forget the worries and stress you left behind! Relax outdoors on the deck or in the Sunken Garden with a cool drink and some appetizers, while you watch the hummingbirds flitting about, fighting for a chance at the feeder, or stroll around and watch the fish in the pond.

Then, I'll serve you a wonderful dinner either inside or outside, topped off with one of my special desserts, which you might even want to save until later!

After dinner you might like to take a walk, go to the Catawampus Cabin for a game of pool, maybe even test your skill at the horseshoe pit! In the evening, when the stars are out, there's no better place to feel indulged and away from the rest of the world than the outdoor hot tub in the Sunken Garden. Robes and slippers are provided in your room, just remember to bring your swim suit! This is the time for quiet conversation and reconnecting with your mate. Just enjoy being with one another!
After a rejuvenating night's sleep (everyone praises the comfort of our beds) a delicious home-cooked breakfast awaits you. Take a full morning to enjoy the inn - take a short 5-minute drive to the Dworshak Visitor Center for a tour or even go for a hike starting at the Marina. Or, you can even choose just to laze around and do "nothing!" or get to that book you haven't had time to read.
