High Country Inn News - 2011
6/6/11
Local Businesses Support Library Fund Raiser
The second annual major fund raiser campaign to help pay for air and heating expenses for our library is well underway, and several businesses have lent support by being ticket outlets for the Barbeque Dinner to be held Saturday, June 25, at the High Country Inn, located on the way to Dworshak Dam. Harvest Foods in Riverside has been added to the list of ticket outlets, joining Glenwood Pharmacy, Potlatch #1 Federal; Credit Union, and Johnson’s Jewelry and Hallmark. Glenwood Pharmacy has also become one of the first Table Sponsors, and a generous donation has been received from Dr. Douglas Gray. Other local businesses are invited to support our local library, which provides an invaluable service to the entire community with its many programs, especially those geared to inspire reading in young children.
Be a Supporter!
How to lend a hand???? Become a Table Sponsor for $100, and also buy tickets for employees or friends to attend the event being planned by the Friends of the Library. This small group of about a dozen active members has undertaken the task of providing funds for much-needed maintenance, repair, and improvement projects for CMPL (Clearwater Memorial Public Library.) Director Ellen Tomlinson states that she is most appreciative of the efforts by the Friends to not only help raise funds, but also the beautification of the grounds which greatly enhances the library’s appearance on Michigan Avenue. Landscaping around the library’s front and back has been under the leadership of Bernie DeLallo for the past two years, and funds for the plantings have also been generated through the Friends’ projects, including its Book Sales.
Enjoy a Fun Evening!
A full Texas-style dinner will be served on Saturday, June 25, with four different meats, lots of salads, cowboy beans, garlic bread, and Texas Chocolate Cake, all for just $25 per person. Entertainment will be on tap all evening, with music to begin at 6 pm, with two groups providing country guitar-playing and singing. Mike Riccomini will be accompanied by his daughter, Julie, and the Clearwater Conspiracy, consisting of David Sanders, Ian Graham, and John McLean, will be entertaining us with a great variety of music, so that there will be continuous entertainment the entire evening.. Guests are invited to dress “western!” Tickets for the full dinner are $25 per person, which is a real bargain for both a delicious meal and evening entertainment. Tickets are being sold in advance only, but reservations for singles or by the table may also be made, with payment at the door. An Open Bar will precede the dinner, beginning at 6 pm, and complimentary appetizers will be served. Music will begin promptly at 6 pm, so everyone is invited to come on time!
Goal is Set
The Friends are in hopes that a goal of at least $1,000 will be realized, to assist the library in its upkeep and maintenance. To help attain this goal, a great variety of raffle items are being offered, to be given away the evening of the Barbeque. Included in the raffle prizes is a package of a suite for 12 guests at an Idaho Steelheads Ice Hockey game along with a deluxe room at the adjoining Grove Hotel for the winning couple;, (a $859 value;) a set of hand-thrown pottery bowls, made by Bernie DeLallo,’ a stained glass bedside lamp made by Sue Bolling, and a Game Night with refreshments for 12 guests at the Catawampus Room of the High Country Inn, donated by Jo Moore Tickets for these prizes (6 tickets for $25) may be obtained early each Tuesday at the library through June. (Last week’s article inadvertently stated that tickets were 6 for $5, in error.)
In order to reach their goal, members of FOL )Friends of the Library) are volunteering to act as prep cooks, servers, and clean-up at the High Country Inn the weekend of the Western Barbeque. Lee Olson is in charge of scheduling helpers for Jo Moore, who will be doing the cooking and donating the use of the inn. Community members who are interested in helping are also invited to volunteer in any of the areas of this fund raising project! For information about tickets, to be a table sponsor or helper, or to make reservations for the dinner, contact Jo Moore, event chairperson, at 476-7570. Or e-mail:

I just want to wish all mothers a great day this Sunday, and hope it will be the best ever! We are still planning our Mother’ Day special dinner, where we will serve you with style, beautiful linens, and all homemade goodness. I will accept a few more reservations until Friday afternoon, as I will be shopping and cooking Saturday. Wherever you are, have a wonderful day!
My annual summer barbeque is turning into a major fund raiser for our local library, as we have had to postpone our Mystery Dinner Theater due to too many scheduling and time restrictions! Our Friends of the Library will be volunteering their time to help, and we’re planning a real shindig here complete with music in our sunken garden! We’ll be offering some wonderful raffle items also, so try to work this event into your schedule! It will be Saturday, June 25 here at the High Country Inn.
Best wishes for a glorious spring if it ever sticks around!

Happy Easter Season to you! I hope your weekend was a wonderful one, blessed with sunshine and those you love!
We are certainly experiencing the most volatile spring weather in my memory, but hopefully the results will be gorgeous growth as we watch all the trees burst into blossom! It’s starting to look really pretty here at the inn with the bright yellows and whites brightening the landscape. It should be beautiful here for Mother’s Day! We hope that some of our friends will be able to join us for our special dinner on May 8, we already have some coming from Lewiston, and the drive should be lovely. We’d love to have your reservations so if you haven’t already made plans, do consider the High Country Inn for your special outing!
4/14/11 - Mother's Day Dinner
Hello… and this time, it looks more like Spring!!! At least the daffodils and hyacinths are in bloom, just wish it would warm up a bit! It does make us appreciate the sneak previews of sunshine that we are teased with every few days at least. We are winding our way toward one of the latest Easters we ever have, so perhaps it will be a gorgeous day on the 24th!
I am trying to settle myself down long enough to think about Mother’s Day, as it will be here before we know it, on May 8! In between I will do my volunteer catering for the Hospital and Clinic’s Wine Tasting on April 29 (everyone is invited to attend!), and three different luncheons, over the next three weeks, but time is flying! So I just want to let everyone know that I am planning a special Mother’s Day Dinner, for Sunday, May 8, at 5 pm. The Community Cantata at St. Theresa’s Church is that same weekend, and there will be the final performance that afternoon, so a combined outing could be planned, to enjoy the concert and then be treated to dinner at the inn!
Proposed Menu:
Cream of Asparagus Soup
Springtime Dinner Salad
Choice of Jo’s Special Salmon or Breaded Pork Loin Cutlet with Gravy
Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Vegetable Medley
Bread and butter
Dessert and coffee
Complete Dinner, $49.95 per couple plus tax and gratuity
Social hour will begin at 5 pm, with dinner served around 6 o’clock. Please reserve early, seating will be limited to allow for special service!
